I found this ad in a vintage magazine I own from the year 1957, advertising personal strippers. The first thing I noticed is that strippers used to look quite classy, at least in my opinion. Perhaps back in the day, they looked rather racey with their bright lipstick smiles, gay curly hair, and wow that lovely genie outfit!
Somehow though, these ladies kind of look like a bunch of mothers to me. They look like they would bring out a tray of milk and cookies while I hang out with friends in front of the television.
Then when I was over checking out the ladies, I had a look at the text and even that is quite different! This advertisement is rather personal and sweet compared to what an ad for strippers might look like in the back of a magazine today!
Apparently stripes were all the rage in casual fashion in the 1940s, according to the start of this fashion video on YouTube. Later the ladies are shown wearing more fancy dresses in polka dots with large hats and snoods.
After watching this video, I can see why men were quite thrilled with pinups and cheesecake, it was so much more thrilling than the stripes, parasols, tunics and snoods of the season!
But then the evening wear is shown and I’m still not very titillated. I guess I wouldn’t have made a very proper lady in the 40s.
This is a really interesting photo find in the free galleries from Miss Conduct at her website Fetish Kitten.
Miss Conduct is a blazing hot example of what today’s modern pinups are all about, with their rockabilly style hair and lingerie with a punk twist.
Check out the metallic blue bullet bra and girdle that she’s wearing before letting your eyes scan downwards and settle on those beautiful flesh tone stockings.
